Chennai: A record fell in ten days, and it was the biggest one Tamil cinema had.

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 has grossed ₹666.30 crore worldwide, trade figures show, overtaking 2.0, the 2018 film that had collected about ₹665 crore excluding 3D rates, according to trade analysts. The sequel, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, released on October 15.

Inside India, the film's net collection stands at ₹373 crore and gross at ₹436.80 crore. On Sunday, its eleventh day, it crossed ₹382 crore by the afternoon and moved past ₹392 crore by evening, putting the ₹400 crore mark within reach on Monday. Saturday had brought ₹24.15 crore across 11,591 shows, a 66.6% jump on Friday's ₹14.50 crore.

The first film, Jailer, released in 2023 and collected ₹604.7 crore worldwide. The sequel passed that inside its first week. Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan and S.J. Suryah join the cast this time, and cameos by Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff and Shiva Rajkumar have been a talking point.

Kerala has been strong too. The film is expected to cross ₹70 crore in the state, with analysts watching whether it can pass Baahubali 2 to become the highest-grossing non-Malayalam film there.

The rest of the year's slate looks like this. Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 3: The Conclusion has reached ₹366.3 crore net in India in 23 days, overtaking Border 2, after collecting ₹2.65 crore on its fourth Saturday, an 89% rise on the previous day. Its worldwide gross is around ₹568 crore.

Among the new releases, Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan's Udta Teer has collected ₹19.45 crore in three days, with ₹4.10 crore on Friday, ₹7.25 crore on Saturday and ₹8.10 crore on Sunday. It is the directorial debut of Akash A Kaushik and also features Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover and Raghubir Yadav. Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna's Ranabaali crossed ₹50.10 crore net in India on its ninth day.

The next big date is November 5, when Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana opens. Its advance bookings had reached ₹10.92 crore across India by 10 am on Sunday, with more than 1.97 lakh tickets sold across 4,546 shows.
