Chennai: Two films are running out their last weeks. Both are already in the record books.
Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 has grossed ₹755.5 crore worldwide in 14 days, overtaking the lifetime global collection of 2.0, which had held the Tamil cinema worldwide record since 2018. It is the first Tamil film to cross ₹700 crore globally. In North America it has earned $7.41 million in 13 days, becoming Kollywood's highest-grossing film in the region, ahead of the original Jailer's $7.25 million. In Kerala it has earned ₹72.85 crore, surpassing the lifetime collection of Baahubali 2 to become the highest-grossing non-Malayalam film in the state's history.
The daily numbers are now thin. On day 14, the film earned ₹4.22 crore from 7,914 shows at 15% occupancy, with the Tamil version contributing ₹2.49 crore, Telugu ₹1.04 crore and Hindi ₹69 lakh. India gross stands at ₹492.13 crore and India net at ₹420.42 crore, with overseas gross at ₹260.50 crore.
Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 3: The Conclusion, released on October 2, is in its fourth week. On day 27 it earned ₹0.90 crore. India net stands at ₹372.10 crore, India gross at ₹445.66 crore and overseas gross at ₹131.90 crore, for a worldwide total of ₹577.56 crore. Week 1 delivered ₹245.50 crore net, week 2 ₹87.50 crore, week 3 ₹28.85 crore and week 4 ₹10.25 crore so far.
Also running: Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan's Udta Teer, released October 23, has collected ₹28.65 crore India net; Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna's Ranabaali is at ₹56.31 crore; Yami Gautam's Nai Naveli at ₹25.52 crore; and Rajkummar Rao's Prahar, based on prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam's work, at ₹21.27 crore. Sidharth Malhotra's The Vvaan has ended its run at ₹92.48 crore worldwide.
Both Jailer 2 and Drishyam 3 have one clear week left. Ramayana arrives on November 5 and will take a large share of screens, which is why this week's collections matter more than last week's.
