Chennai: A case has been registered against a DMK councillor for allegedly making 'defamatory' remarks against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay.
Sudha Deenadayalan, the DMK councillor representing Ward 95 in the Villivakkam area, allegedly used objectionable language against the Chief Minister, the complainant said.
Separately, the ruling alliance led by Chief Minister Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) unveiled its official name, the 'Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance'. The alliance, led by TVK, includes parties such as the Congress, MDMK, IUML and VCK.
VCK leader S.S. Balaji said the name was chosen deliberately to send a clear message of opposition to the BJP and what they term 'fascist forces'. The move came in response to criticism that TVK has been soft on the BJP, he said.
The Congress clarified that there is no disagreement within the coalition over the prime ministerial candidate. However, the rising 'Vijay for PM' campaign has caused some discomfort within the party, Congress minister Rajesh Kumar said.
A coordination meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vijay discussed the alliance's formal structure, its Common Minimum Programme and a proposed steering committee. The CPI and CPI-M were absent from the meeting, but TVK minister Aadhav Arjuna said they would join the alliance soon.
The alliance will make its electoral debut in the upcoming by-election.
