United Nations: India has told the UN to stay alert so that sensitive technology linked to weapons of mass destruction does not reach those tied to terrorism or nuclear proliferation. The call is being read as an indirect pointer at Pakistan.
Presenting India's position before the UN General Assembly's First Committee on disarmament and international security on Monday, MP Alok Kumar Suman said terrorism is the gravest challenge to international security. 'Such sensitive technology must not go to those linked to terrorism, and it must be checked,' he said.
Pakistan's nuclear programme chief A.Q. Khan had led efforts to pass nuclear technology to other countries, and the US described him as a 'one-stop shopping' source for nuclear technology. India's position is being seen in that context.
Suman noted in his speech that India has held this position since 2002 and had moved a resolution on it.
