Democrats take the Senate and the House, and Trump loses both chambers
Democrats are projected to win control of the Senate with 54 seats, with upsets in Texas, South Carolina and Kansas and flips in Maine, Iowa, Ohio and North Carolina. They have also been called as winners of the House. Amy Acton beat Vivek Ramaswamy in Ohio's governor race.
Fifth day of gains: Nifty back above 23,900 as foreign funds return
The Sensex was up 309 points at 77,227 and the Nifty 98 points at 23,908 in afternoon trade on Wednesday, the fifth straight session of gains. Foreign investors bought Rs 6,837 crore of equities on Tuesday and Rs 25,400 crore over 11 sessions. Crude falling to $105 a barrel has helped.
54 million votes already cast: America decides Congress control today
Americans vote on Tuesday in midterm elections that decide control of Congress and shape the last two years of Donald Trump's presidency. More than 54 million have already voted early. Republicans are defending narrow majorities in both chambers.
