TRAI has recommended letting satellites talk directly to ordinary smartphones on six mobile bands, with agreements covering all 22 licensed service areas. It also proposed a new network-provider licence at 8% of adjusted gross revenue. The Department of Telecommunications decides next.
AI will run your network. TRAI's draft rules ask who answers when it gets it wrong
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has released draft guidelines on the responsible use of artificial intelligence in telecom networks and services, and invited public comments until November 27. The draft applies the seven principles of the India AI Governance Guidelines, released in February 2026, to operators such as Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea and BSNL. No penalties or mandatory audits are proposed yet.
