Jaipur: Rajasthan Congress leaders continued their protest outside the Jaipur Police Commissionerate on Tuesday, demanding a Zero FIR over the alleged assault on NSUI national secretary Ritu Barala by Delhi Police women personnel during a demonstration in Delhi.

Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly Tika Ram Jully said he was heading from Alwar to the Jaipur Police Commissionerate. 'Two laws cannot run in the country,' he said, appealing to people to join the protest for justice for Barala.

A Congress delegation led by state Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra, including former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, joined the protest. Congress leader Pratap Singh Khachariyawas alleged that party leaders had been waiting since the previous night for the registration of a Zero FIR and accused senior officials of remaining unavailable.

Congress leader Dharmendra Singh Rathore said it was unfortunate that senior leaders had to protest to get an FIR registered. 'Ritu Barala has been subjected to a violent assault. We have a legal right to have an FIR registered. Our demand is simple: register the FIR immediately and then investigate,' he said.

The alleged assault on Barala took place during a 'vote theft' demonstration in New Delhi demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. NSUI national president Vinod Jakhar claimed on Friday that he and several party workers had been detained at different police stations in the capital.

Athira Vijayan, a Delhi University law student and NSUI activist, also alleged that police personnel assaulted her during a protest near Connaught Place on October 13.
