Chandigarh: The Central Bureau of Investigation team probing the murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota will reach Mansa at noon on Wednesday and complete its inquiry in 120 days, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday.

At the meeting at Jhota's residence in Mansa, which lasted about 20 to 25 minutes, Shah spoke to Jhota's father Bhim Singh, his wife and other family members and assured them of justice. BJP state president Kewal Singh Dhillon and former state president Sunil Jakhar were also present.

The family asked for a memorial in Jhota's name and a trauma centre. Asked about the demand for the Chief Minister's resignation, Shah said, "That is not in my hands; it is the people's decision."

Bhim Singh later said justice would be delivered and urged everyone to wait 24 hours, adding that he was ready to talk with the state government. Separately, state Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema attacked the Centre and Shah, asking why no action was taken against pharmaceutical companies.

During his day-long tour, Shah also met the families of Bikramjit Singh in Gurdaspur and others in Sangrur. This was his second visit to Punjab in 20 days. Punjab votes in assembly elections early next year.
