Bengaluru: Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy is free to return to Karnataka politics whenever he wants, even by resigning as a Union minister, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said on Monday.

"Who is going to stop him if he wants to return to state politics? If he wishes, he can resign as Union minister tomorrow and become active in state politics. Nobody can stop anyone in politics," Parameshwara said. He added that who will come to power after 2028 is for the people to decide, and it is too early to predict.

On the alleged sting operation and the allegations against some politicians, he said it was not a healthy development and that those in responsible positions should exercise restraint while speaking. Asked whether the controversy had damaged the government's image, he said the Chief Minister and the cabinet would discuss it soon and act.

On the drought, Parameshwara said many parts of the state are affected. The government will soon submit a third memorandum to the Centre seeking relief, ready in two days. Whether the Chief Minister leads a delegation or sends representatives will be decided by him. Crop loss has been estimated at about 82%, affecting food production and leaving livestock vulnerable to a fodder shortage.
