About Free Training for Vehicle Drivers
The "Free Training for Vehicle Drivers" scheme was implemented by the Transport Department, Government of Uttarakhand. The scheme aims to enhance driving skills and promote self-employment among scheduled caste and scheduled tribe individuals. Under this scheme, free professional driving training is provided to candidates for light, heavy, and refresher vehicle courses. The scheme also aims to reduce road accidents and improve driving capabilities in the SC/ST communities. The scheme is implemented by the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR), Dehradun.

Free Driving Training:

Fees
- Free Training – Training under this scheme will be completely free of cost. No fee will be charged from the applicant.
Who is Eligible
General Eligibility:
- The applicant should belong to a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe category.
- The applicant should be a resident of Uttarakhand.
- The applicant must possess a valid light or heavy motor vehicle license.
Eligibility for Light Motor Vehicle (Commercial Course):
- The applicant must possess a valid light motor vehicle (non-transport) license that is at least 1 year old.
Eligibility for Heavy Motor Vehicle (Commercial Course):
- The applicant must possess a light motor vehicle (transport) license that is at least 1 year old.
For Refresher Courses:
- Applicant must possess a valid license to drive either a light or heavy motor vehicle.
How to Apply
Offline
Step 1: The interested applicant should visit (during office hours) the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR), Dehradun and request a hard copy of the prescribed format of the application form from the staff exclusively entrusted to issue and collect filled-in applications.
Step 2: In the application form, fill in all the mandatory fields, and attach copies of all the mandatory documents (self-attested, if required).
Step 3: Submit the duly filled and signed application form along with the documents to the concerned Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR).
Notes:
- After scrutiny of the received applications, admission to the training program will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Applications can be submitted at any time of the year, and training will commence once a batch is formed.

- Aadhaar Card of the Applicant
- Caste Certificate
- One Passport Size Photograph
- High School Certificate or 8th Class Transfer Certificate
- Valid Non-Transport Light Motor Vehicle License (Minimum 1 year old)
For Heavy Motor Vehicle (Commercial Course):
- Aadhaar Card of the Applicant
- Caste Certificate
- One Passport Size Photograph
- High School Certificate or 8th Class Transfer Certificate
- Valid Transport Light Motor Vehicle License (Minimum 1 year old)
For Refresher Courses:
- Aadhaar Card of the Applicant
