About APJ Abdul Kalam Scholarship
The A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Scholarship (APJAK) is administered by the Minority Welfare Department of Kerala for the academic year. This scholarship program aims to support students from various religious minority groups (Muslim, Christian (all denominations), Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi) in Kerala. The scheme is implemented by the Directorate of Minority Welfare.
Note: The last date to apply for fresh applications is February 3, 2025.
Benefits
- Financial support of ₹6,000/- per annum for selected scholars.
- The scholarship is intended for students pursuing three-year diploma courses in government, aided, or government-approved self-financing polytechnic institutions.
Frequency of Disbursement:
The scholarship is a one-time benefit.
Who is Eligible
- The applicant must be a permanent resident of Kerala.
- The applicant must be a regular/scheduled student.
- The applicant should belong to a religious minority community (Muslim, Christian (all denominations), Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi).
- The applicant must be studying a three-year diploma course in a government, aided, or government-approved self-financing polytechnic institution.
- The applicant must have secured admission in a merit seat in a government-approved self-financing polytechnic institution.
- The applicant's family annual income should not exceed ₹8,00,000/- if from the APL (Above Poverty Line) category.
- The applicant can be a second-year or third-year student.
- The applicant must have an account in their own name in any nationalised bank or scheduled bank.
Preference/Priority/Reservation/Relaxation:
- BPL (Below Poverty Line) category applicants will be given preference.
- 30% of the scholarships are reserved for girls. If the specified percentage of girls is not met, eligible boys will also be considered for the scholarship.
- The selection of minority students is based on family annual income and marks, proportionate to the population.
How to Apply
Online
Step 1: Visit the official website of the Directorate of Minority Welfare.
Step 2: Locate and click on the "Scholarship".
Step 3: Navigate to the "Scholarship" menu link and click on "APJ Abdul Kalam (APJAK)".
Step 4: Click on "Apply Online".
Step 5: For new scholarship applicants, first complete one-time registration and log in with your candidate details.
Step 6: In the Registration Form, carefully enter the details step-by-step under Examination details (register number/roll number), Personal details, and Scholarship details tabs.
Step 7: In the Upload details tab, upload the required documents (Photo, Signature, SSLC Certificate, Income Certificate, Ration Card Copy, Allotment Memo) in JPEG format under 100 KB size each.
Step 8: Only after uploading all required documents, the registration process will be considered complete.
Step 9: After completing the application submission, use the View/Print Application link to take a printout of the application form.
Submission of Application Printout
- After submitting the scholarship application (either through new registration or login), click on "View/Print Application" to get a printout of your registration form.
- Submit the printout of the registration form along with all the required supporting documents to the head of the institution where you are studying, within the specified deadline.

- Applicant's Registration Printout.
- SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate), Plus Two/VHSE (Vocational Higher Secondary Education) Mark List Copy.
- Allotment Memo Copy.
- Applicant's Own Bank Passbook First Page Copy (including name, account number, branch code, and branch address).
- Aadhaar Card Copy or NPR (National Population Register) Card Copy.
- Nativity Certificate Copy.
- Community Certificate Copy or Minority Certificate Copy.
- Income Certificate (Original) from the Village Office.
- Ration Card Copy.
Who Is Not Eligible
- The scholarship is provided only once to an eligible student. Students who received the scholarship in the previous year should not apply again.
